Every year on January 1 the world gets motivated to set their health goals and do better than the year before. We have all done it. We buy special packages that are to help us lose weight, join health clubs, challenges and competitions. Then slowly for some of us the excitement ends. At first, we feel good and changes begin to happen. We slowly start getting back to our old habits because we think its ok to just do it once or twice. But then we eventually get back to our old habits all the way. Why? How do we stay on task and stay motivated? I tell people over and over that the way we look at our health must change.  It cannot be something we only take seriously on January 1 every year. We must make it a daily, weekly, and monthly task we try to keep improving on. My family of four girls, two dogs and my hubby has decided this year Family and Fitness comes First. We have made a commitment to each other and have begun a habit to help all of us stay accountable. This month pair up with your family, co-worker or friend and think of Fitness as Medicine. Everything you do from this point forward is for preventative care for your future. Make a list of some things you want to do better by the end of the month. If we take baby steps it will lead to bigger accomplishments for success.

To make it easier to stay on track, my family and others have decided to set a monthly goal. This month we have set doing pushups–100 a day. And to keep it interesting, you can vary the types of pushups. For example, you can do wall pushups, on your knees, off the couch, etc. Another great way to incorporate pushups is by doing them during commercial breaks in your favorite TV programs. We have also included Friday night Fitness Happy Hour. On Friday nights we go to the gym with no cell phones or computers. For us, it’s all about quality time doing workouts and deciding together on our meal choices.

Join us and set a personal goal for the month with family friends or co-workers

See you next month for Challenge Number 2.
