For years I pondered over God’s command to pray without ceasing. When I was young and foolish, it seemed an impossibility. As I got older and began relying on my own wisdom, it seemed repetitive. Now that I am more mature in the faith and spend time in communion with Him, I realize it’s imperative.

For this reason, spending time with Abba Father has become my favorite pastime. During these treasured moments, He shares tidbits of revelation that I would never think of on my own. One of the beautiful things about God is if you ask, He will answer in His timing. When He shared some nuggets that emphasize the importance of continuous prayer for every believer, it was not for my benefit only. And since you’re still reading, it was apparently for you because of the season you’re in right now.

Prayer is God’s chosen method for His children to engage Him–rather than merely spewing words aimlessly into the atmosphere. Think of it as your manager insisting on a face-to-face dialogue rather than a text message if you have something to discuss or an important request.

Secondly, praying continuously demonstrates your sincere desire to have Abba Father receive and act on your petition. Think back, do you recall your parents giving you your own car the first time you asked or even the next–it’s not likely. They wanted to make sure you understood the responsibility for what you were asking and that you were ready to handle what it entailed. So, you probably had to ask several times. And so it is with God. Continuous prayer also enables you to remain connected with God throughout each day, thus keeping Him close and giving Him permission to handle your every situation.

Finally, the grace God gives in answering one prayer is not necessarily the same as the grace He will apply in answering another. The need is certain to be different for each prayer petition, and so is His Divine solution. Other than continuous prayer, your only job is to trust Him and believe He will answer.
